Rep. Pompeo Comments on Retirement Announcement of Spirit AeroSystems President and CEO
WICHITA, KS — Today Wichita-based Spirit AeroSystems announced that its President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeffrey L. Turner has advised its Board of his intention to retire in early 2013. Congressman Mike Pompeo (KS-04) released the following statement:
“History will show that Jeff Turner has led organizations—first at Boeing-Wichita and then Spirit AeroSystems—that have improved our community and the lives of its citizens in innumerable ways.
“I have worked with Jeff in varying capacities over the years: as the CEO of a supplier to his business, as a friend working to help people in need, and most recently as the congressman representing his company’s headquarters in Washington. I've known no better leader, no finer man of faith, and no one with a stronger commitment to Wichita, Kansas and its surrounding communities.
“Jeff worked tirelessly to ensure his team and his customers focused on creating value in building a sustainable enterprise, and the success he and his company have had over the years proves that it worked. It is far too easy to forget that thousands of jobs at South Oliver could have been lost in their entirety when The Boeing Company first contemplated the future of its Wichita facility. Jeff provided the leadership and clarity to create, from whole cloth, the remarkable aviation leader that is Spirit AeroSystems today.
“Jeff has built a great team at Spirit AeroSystems. That legacy will live on as Spirit continues to build the world's finest airplanes with a world-class team. I want to thank Jeff for all he has done for his employees, his customers, and especially our community—where his hard work helped ensure that Wichita will remain the Air Capital of the World for years to come.”
